DRAINAGE BOARD
COMMISSION SET UP.
(by TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) PALMERSTON N ; , Aug. 30. The commission :set up in connection with the Manawatu and Oroua River Board’s £450,000 flood control scheme commenced its deliberations' tins morning. The chairman i® Air R. Watson, S.M., of Feikling, and! the two other members of the commission are Air Kook, a civil engineer of Auckland, and! Air H. Leighton. a land agent of AVelling,ton. Briefly, the duties' of the commission are to decide the following points'-. (1) As to whether the 13 local bodies cited, or any of them, should contribute anv sum at all to the scheme put forward by the Mauiaiwatu and Orouai River Board for protection from flooding and, if so, what is the fair proportion; (2) whether the Makerua Drainage Board is entitled! to any, and if so, what-, allowance for the very considerable expenditure it has already 'been put to in guarding its area against flooding; (3) whether the State should find any amount bv Way of subsidy to assist in the execution of the scheme.
It is expected the' sitting wall' extend' over .several days, while the board will also inspect the area concerned. -
