WHAREROA.

Last Tuesday evening Air. and Airs. Ge-r>. Luscombe gave a very -large party at their home to celebrate the twentyfirst birth-day of their eldest son, Laurie. The evening was devoted to dancing, cards, games, and music, and the- whole- affair was- most successful. Although the object of the function was intended to be a secret, Laurie was the recipient of many valuable and useful presents. A most sumptuous sit-down .supper was provided, with a large birthday cake in the centre of the table. Air. R. Hicks proposed, a toast to Laurie, eulogising Ins many good and popular qualities. Air. Ben Bloor also'suoke in similar strains, to which Laurie suitably responded. All sang “For he’s a jolly good fellow. Air. Hicks also proposed a hearty vote of thanks to lAir. and Airs. Luscombe for their kindness, and for all the work they had done in providing so much pleasure for their guests. Air. Luscombe suitably replied. On Friday evening a dance was held in the local hall to music supplied by Mr. Coburn.
