That siwiimning the English Channel has become a profitable' business, .as well l as a great athletic feat, was demonstrated when Miss Ederle’® attorney announced that she had already received offers’ totalling 990,000 dollars for theatrical tour® and swimming exhibitions and would shortly announce which of these she would accept. Two promoters to-day made offers, aside fi-om the above, for a race between Miss Ederle and Mrs Carson for a 25,000 dollars purse around Manhattan Island, on which New York is, stiunted. a distance of 42 miles, and' 100.000 dollars for -a race on Delaware Bay over a course of 20 miles or more. It is expected! that Miss Ederle will probably accent. She received a welcome usually only given to a national hero upon her arrival here. Hundreds of thousands thronged' the streets to see here, while thousands of congratulatory messages, inclnding one from the President (Mr Coolidgc), are continuing to arrive at. her lmmc.—A. and N.Z.
