Miss D. .Toll, of Hawera, left by the mail train this .morning; tor a holiday in Wanganui and Wellington.

Mr C. T> Dickie, of Hawera, returned from Wellington by the mail train last evening.

Mr. W. Hislop, of the Universal Picture Company, Wellington, has been staying in Hawera for a few days, being accommodated! at the Egmont Hotel. JTe left- for" New Plymouth, "en route to Auckland', this morning.

Mr. J. Holmes Runnicles, who has been .judging at the Hawera competitions! during the. past week, took passage by the mail train this morning for Palmerston North. A number of the committee which, controlled the Hawera gathering were present at the station to say good-bye to the popular judge. Mr. F. de Berry in ends remaining in this town until Monday.

A representative gathering assembled in the Social Hall, Parliamentary Bui,’dings, on Thursday night to make a presentation to Mr F. D. Thomson, permanent head of the Prime Minister’s Department, who is to accompany the Right Hon. J. G. Coates to the Imperial Conference. Those present, included members of both Houses of the Legislature, departmental heads, and represenative citizens.

At the last gymnasium class conducted by the Hawera High School Old Girls’ Association, opportunity was taken to congratulate Miss Mary Death “on her approaching marriage, and to bid farewell to her as a popular and ■enthusiastic member of the class. Miss Death had for a, time held the office of president of the association and had always taken: a keen interest in its activities. In making a presentation of a crystal salad: bowl on behalf of the association,, the president'. Miss 0. Sage, expressed regret that Miss: Death would: be severing her connection with the association, referred to the high esteem, in which she was held by all her associates, and 1 wished her all the best of luck and! happiness. Miss O. T,ait also spoke. In reply, Miss Death referred to the pleasure that she had received from her connection with the association.
