CHEESE WORKERS’ AWARD.
NEW WAGES AND HOURS. Recently the Conciliation Commissioiner and The Arbitration Court gave consideration to j& new award lor cheese factory and butter factory employees in Taranaki. Representatives of the Workers’ Union, and the Taranaki Employers’ Association met, and many, matters connected with the technical side of the work were decided in conference, but wages and, hours of work were decided: by the Arbitration Court. A butter and cheese employees’ award providing for 4s per week more pay than that paid under the ot’d Taranaki award, has been in existence for some time; consequently, it is not surprising 10 ‘find that the new award provides for an increase in pay to workers and assistants of 4s per week. WAG EE. It is interesting to compare the conditions' in tlte new award with those set out in the old schedule. The latter provided for pay to cheese factory workers as follows (in each c-ase the week is one of seven, days) : First assistants £4 19s 6d tier week. Second assistants, £4 13s 6d pet week. „, , Third assistants, £4 Gs Gd per week. AV ( others, £3 Ins per week. The new award provides: — First assistants, £5 3s Gd per week. Second assistants, £4 17s Gd per " Third assistants, £4 10s Gd per week. All others, £4 Is per week. HOURS.
The old award provided for the working of GO hours per week (in' all cases of seven days) from August 1 to March at ; 48 hours par week from April 1 to May 31: and 38 hours per week from June 1 to July 31. The new award provides for 60 hours per week from August 14 to Mav_ 14; 48 hours per week from May 15 to June 16: and 38 hours per. week from Tune'l7 to August 13.
