HIGHLAND PIPE BAND.

. UNIFORM FUND APPEAL. (Contributed). On Friday evening the Highland Pipe Band journeyed, to Alanaia, and after submitting a. short but highlyappreciated programme in the street, conducted si concert anc daaiee im the Town Hall in aid of the unifonni fund. Vocal items: were contributed by Mrs Sunderland and Messrs’Buchan, Stevenson and; Simpson, 'and- the Elki.ngton trio; Miss Beaurepaire was heard in elocutionary items, and Misses Mabel Guy and At. Lay and Mr J.. Mackenzie performed neatly executed dances, while instrumental solos were rendered by Messrs Swan (cornet), Overbye (violin), and Henson (clarionet),. Tlie artists’ efforts were enthusiastically -received and encores were the order of the evening. The accompaniments Mere played hv Mrs L. A. Taylor and Messrs T. A. Pickering and A. Elkington, while Pipe-Major Muirdp Mackenzie supplied the music for the Highland dancing. - After the concert dancing was indulged in till the “wee- sraa’ hours,” music being supplied! by the Kiltie Orchestra. A. notable- feature of the dance was the inclusion of several oldtime dances in the programme, ft departure which proved most popular. The thanks of the band are -due to the artists- and to the committee- of local ladies and gentlemen who assisted with, -the supper arrangements -and other (details which combined in. the success of tire occasion.
