A young man, strolled into the Farmers’ National Bank in. the heart of the business district- of Pittsburg, and without saying a word presented a. written dennamd fo-r a, “Hundred thousand or I’ll blow you up.” The teller pressed the secret mechanism and within ten seconds four special policemen tried to close on the bandit, who threw a satchel he carried against a pillar. A terrific explosion followed. It wrecked the building, killing one detective, and mortally wounded two customers, while fifteen others were taken to the hospital and the bandit himself escaped.

The whole down-town section of Pittsburgh was -shaken, by the force of the crash. Paper money was blown in every direction and was picked up hundreds of feet away.
