CYCLE ROAD RACE.
KA PO NG A OPENS S ECOND SERIES
CURRAN. OF M ANA lA. WINS. The first event in the second series of six load races under the'auspices of the Kaponga Cycle Club was run on Saturday in fine weather. The route lay •over the Alanaia, Sheet, Aiwoa and Eltlrani roads, a distance of about 28 miles. ! Mr H. Hawke’s gold medal was awarded to the competitor finishiing lirst past the post (W. F. Curran). 'Officials were : Starter, Mr A. jVJialville ; judges, Messrs R. J. Payne and \V. H. L. Roberts; time-keeper, Mr H. Hawke; stewards, Messrs W. Noonan, E. Blackwell; and A. Hawkins. Fifteen started, anil the race produced an excellent finish, the order being:— W. I’. Curran (Ma.na.ia), 9Jmin 1 G. Williams (9',) '2 ,1. Blackwell (•*) 3 G. Pavne (3&) 4 J. Payne (3*) 5 L. Williamson (&) 6 The winner’s time was 56min 35sec. 'Blackwell made fastest time (48miin. osec), after riding himself right out.
