HOME TE AM 42 FOR NO WICKETS. LONDON, Aug. 21. For the Australia v. Somerset .match the wicket was soft. There had been a night-long drizzle, and the start was delayed. The attendance was 8000. Collin si won the toss, and sent Bardsley laud Taylor in to open to Bridges and Glasgow. The start was quiet. Rain soon fell, interrupting the game till after lunch. Immediately on the resumption Glasgow completely beat Bardsley with a good length ball with the score at 22. Ponsford and Collins went cheaply. Taylor shaped well, and his timing was good. He fell to a magnificent catcli by White at second slip low down, the hoard then reading four for 38. Hendry and Ryder were' assertive. And played attractively. Ryder, when eight, was badly missed by Lyon at the wicket off Glasgow. When the total was 74 Hendry, who showed signs of staying, was unlucky in pulling White on to the wicket.

Under the influence of sun and breeze' the wicket made a remarkable recovery. Although at no time , a bowler’s paradise it gave some' assistance. enabling the fa st-mediuni Bridges, and the slow-handed White to turn the hall effectively.

Ryder gained all the runs in front of the wicket. Gregory, going out to hit White, gave a chance of stumping before scoring. Richardson: 'and Gregory then opened out, and drove in fine style.
