MANAIA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) VO UNO PEOPLE’S CLUB. The club held the final social of the 1926 season on Monday night in the Oddfellows’ Hall. The function was a great success, there being about 70 members and friends present, all of whom entered into the various competitions and games in a fraternal spirit. A musical programme was rendered, to which the following contributed: Miss Wills, Mr. J. Forrester, Rev. J. D. Smith, Miss C. Imlah, .Messrs E. Wills', J. Green hill, and A. JuiCah, Miss B. Bridge obliging as accompanist. Supper was then dispensed by the girls in their usual manner. The president of the club, Mr. J. Hammonds, took the opportunity' at this juncture to welcome all the visitors, and remarked that although there \jere not quite as many names on the membership book as last year, the season had: been very successful from an educational and social point of view, which was the chief aim of the club. \ pleasant evening then closed with the singing of “Anld Lang Syne.” SWIMMING BATHS DANCE. An enthusiastic meeting of young people interested in the raising of funds for the proposed swimming baths was held in the Town Board room on Tuesday night, there being about twenty present. It was decided to liold a dance on September 1 in the Town Hall All present were formed into the various working committees, anti by the interest shown the dance should go off merrily. SCOTTISH. CONCERT. The Scottish concert and dance held In.st evening in the Mnnaia Town Hall was very successful. A large audience was present, and the various items submitted were thoroughly appreciated, numerous encores being demanded. Prior to tbe function the pipe band paraded the main street. The band also played several selections outside the hall. After the concert a dance was held PERSONAL. The many friends of Mr. Empsom, .of Manaia, will regret to hear of the death of his mother at Devon port last w eek, at the age of 86. The deepest sympathy' will be extended to him in his bereavement.
