OPUNAKE HARBOUR.
PETITION IN FAVOUR, OF THE WORK.
(By Telegraph—Special to The Star.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 20.
The member for Stratford, Mr E. Walter, has presented a, .petition from Mr S. J. Clegg and 161 others,' ratepayers of the Opunake town district, praying that the. Government will give the Opunake Harbour Board every facility for the construction’of .a workable harbour, as it is of vital importance to the: prosperity of the district. If the scheme is abandoned it will mean a Joss of £50,000 and, says the petition, the practical ruination of the district. While the petitioners are opposed to very large further exjpenditure, they feel that the board, in which they have every confidence, should be given every opportunity to make a workable port.
