UTTERING COUNTERFEIT COINS ALLEGED. (BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) HAMILTON, Aug. 20. Alf red Crossey pleaded nlot guilty at Ngaruawaihia to-day to four charges of being in possession of land uttering counterfeit coins. He was committed to the Supreme Court at Hamilton for trial. A YEAR’S HARD LABOUR. NAPIER, Aug. 20. Mary Ann Westoboy, found guilty yesterday of using an instrument for an illegal purpose, and recommended to mercy on account of her age (70), was sentenced to-day by Judge Ostler to one year’s hard labour. SERIOUS CHARGE MADE.' INVERCARGILL, Aug. 20. At the Magistrate’s- ' Court to-day, George Winton was charged with on or about the month of February, 1926, he did unlawfully supply to a young woman a certain- noxious thing, knowing that the same was intended 1 to- be used to’ procure a miscarriage. After a, lengthy hearing accused pleaded not guilty, reserved his defence, and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial.
ALLEGED VALUELESS CHEQUES. CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 20. Nine charges of having issued valueless cheques were preferred against Cyril George Fitch, trainer, aged 34, who appeared at the Magistrate’s Court this morning. The total amount of the cheques was £52 17s 3d. Six were alleged to have been issued at Leith field, two iu Pa.pnnui and one in Amiherlev. Fitch pleaded not guilty to all the charges, and elected to be dealt with by the magistrate. Chief Detective Gibson’s application for a; week’s remand was granted. Bail was allowed in self £IOO, with a surety of £IOO.
