MEETING OF N.Z- COUNCIL
PROGRESS OF THE GAME IN NEW ZEALAND.
(BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 21. At the annual meeting of the council of the- New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association, the chairmen, Mr. IV. E. Denneston, said the game was l growing -so, fast in public favour that it would not be long before it would be head of the list. He urged that more interest should be taken in the Wilding Memorial Shield, which ought- to be the Davis Oup of New Zealand. Exception was taken to the heavy expenditure incurred at the last championship meeting. This, ife was admitted, .was high, but the balance-sheet was passed. , . . The Maori- Lawn Tennis Association was (affiliated and Messrs Ngata and Tahiwi were cordially welcomed tas delegates. Affiliation was also granted to the Poverty Bay and -East Coast Associations. ' A motion was passed recommending the preparation of a national ranking The Governor-General (Stir Charles Fergusson) was elected patron and Mi E. \V. Griffiths (Auckland) president. Mr. D. M. Kean was elected sec-ertary.
