A number of mining men from New Guinea, who came to Sydney to purchase equipment, give glowing .accounts of the recently discovered goldfields in Bulolo River and Ed:e Greek district, Papua, After a visit to tho scene of operations, one declared that it was the richest find of recent years, and that 50.000 ounces of gold were stored oil the fields, .awaiting tnansport. According to reports, it was difficult to take a dish sample from Edie c-reek, where extensive sluicing is in progress, yielding less than five pennyweight. The narrator himself saw yields of twenty ounces to. the cubicyard. He added that lie thought the statement that thousands of ounces daily were being taken from Ed ir-e-reek were quite credible. The gold was of poor quality, worth about fifty shillings per ounce. Re .strongly warns intending fortuneseekers that the country is; mountainous, difficult of access land unhealthy. They must be prepared to. make la; big financial outlay and be physically fit to undertake the venture. The Government intends to examine every man to ensure that he is financially -and physically fit before it allows him to undertake the journey from, the coast. The visitors to Sydney bring with them fine specimens of both quartz .and sluiced gold in support of their statements.
