A number of ladies joined the local association and were enrolled by the captain.

As Zara Morris was con lined to her bed on Saturday, the captain (Airs R. R. Henderson) went along to her house and enrolled her as a. Guide. Queen ie Gold stone presented Zara. All Guides will hope that Zara will soon ho quite recovered.

A very line Totem in the form of a large toadstool, realistically painted, has been presented to our Brownie pack by Air Walter Syme and Mr J. R. Corrigan. A Totem is a prized possession of a. pack. A\ henever they come together they plant their Totem in the centre and the Brown Owl takes her piace beside it. The Brownies form their ring around her, the Elves together, the Sprites together, and eo on.

The Winter Show authorities have kindly placed at the disposal of the Brownie pack one of the halls in the Winter Show Buildings for use as a meeting place. This was rendered desirable by the increasing number of "iris coming along as recruits. The hall will make a splendid headquarters for the pack. AYith the approach of wanner weather, both Guides and Brownies will take every opportunity of getting out in the open, and many plans for nature study and tracking are afoot. Last Sunday we had our first church parade. There was a muster o? about 60 Guides and Brownies. The great majority of the girls were in uniform. which -speaks volumes for the assistance given by the. mothers and the ladies’ sewing committee. Appreciative reference was made to the movement in all the churches. As a direct result of the recent Rotary luncheon, twenty gentlemen have become members of the local association. This practical form of assistance is much appreciated by the executive. Airs S. B. WiWiams, of New Plymouth, has consented to act as provincial secretary for Taranaki, vice Miss K. M. Stewart, resigned. AHs F. S. Hudson, Divisional Commissioner, has resigned lier captaincy of the Te Mara. (New Plymouth’ company, and Aliss Harding has been appointed captain in her place. _ Airs Hudson finds her duties as divisional commander make considerable inroads in Per time. Te Afara will miss their first captain, hut have a splendid Guicier in Aliss Harding. LONE-POST GUIDES.

Are there any girls who would like to become Guides, but who live too far from Hawera to attend parades They can become part of the Guide- movement by enrolling as Lone Guides. The Done captain appoints the Lone patrol leaders, who write once a month to their patrols. The letter is circulated front one Lone Guide to another until the whole patrol lui-s read it, Hie last Guide returning the letter to the patrol leader. Each Guide writes to the patrol leader after receiving the letter. " The leader then sends all rep’jes. together with her own letter, to the Lone captain, who writes company letters at regular intervals, commenting on work done aiul. giving further help or instruction. Post guides work in very much the same wav. but this branch is intended lor girls who. through some physical weakness or lameness, are unable to take part- in ordinary company work. The bead of the Tone or Post Guides. Aliss I A- Alarxhall, will be very glad to bear from girls who would like to register as Lone or Post Guides. Her address is Box 116, Wanganui. Please write to her direct or through the tlis--11 it*t secretary. Box 90, Hawera.
