THE CASTLE PLEDGE.
I promise to smile every time I can, and to chase all the frowns into the dark cave, where the Smile Giant will kill them with his Magic Sword Happiness. Dear Children, And still there are word-building papers to be marked! I hope that you all continue to enter foi competitions in such force as you have with this one. You should see the fairies who are .marking the word-building. They are so busy. Some of you have put down the same words twice in your lists, others have numbered lists incorrectly. The papers I like best are the ones which have till the words beginning with the same letter together. These are easiest to correct and look the neatest. Always try to be neat and tidy in everything. lam sure it will save you lots of time and make you happier too. Then we shall see more smiles. I hope that each Smile is using his or her eyes to observe as much as possible of what is going on in the plant, bird and animal world just now. Some of you are,-for you toll me about the things you see. I hear you are' to have holidays from school just now. Then you will have more and more chances to see things. If you notice anything unusual, make a note of it in an exercise book. It may be useful and interesting to recall it at some other time. What are you going- to do in your holidays'? .1 know one boy who is going to read as many books as he can. Of course, they will lie worth while books. One? must read to learn ami to get the most out of life. A girl I know is going to practice on the piano all she can, another one wants to get her garden the best in the town, while still another hopes to make some new clothes for little brother. Some boys we know will spend time in Robinson Crusoe games, cowboys and Indians, others will give more time to tending their pets. I have one request to make. .For half of your holidays, do you each one of you think you could spend it in seeing how much you can do to help other people? Let that half of your holidays be your ■week of kindness, usefulness and best smiles. I know you are kind, useful and full of smiles at other times; but I want one week to be a special effort. Who will manage the most? You can all .find someone to help or cheer. Why. there are mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, that tired old lady who lives . Where you can do nothing else, then smile. (That is our pledge isn’t it?) Just for one week this special effort. (You’ll feel so much happier after it you will want to carry it on, I know). We are all making this effort, too. Your very-happy SMILE QUEEN.
