In, the course of this report- it was stated: The activity of the committee nas been, well -maintained during the year, and the position is -such ia«*. to give -satisfaction. The number of subscribers has been increased by about 12 since the last annual meeting. The subscriptions have shown an increase of over £lO on -receipts for the previous year. The borough subsidy oi £35 was received during the year. The Town Hall pictures committee- also granted a benefit, but owing to the unsettled -state of the weather -and to the- number of other (attractions at that time the picture wais not well attended. The proceeds from -the pictures have -been expended on improvements to the lighting of the library. 'During the year 1924-25 a clock meter for the purpose of automatically lighting the gaslights in the reading room was installed, but owing to the increased -consumption of gas, it was decided- during the past year to have it- removed. The result has been a considerable saving, enabling a. greater number of books to- be- purchased. During the year, between 190 and 200 books, were added to- the- library, about 30 of the number being donated by members. The present -membership stand-s at 93. It was hoped that the- number of subscribers would be increased to 100 before the -annual meeting. During the year the committee decided to adopt the card system of recordj/lig books taken out by -subscribers, and the librarian '.states that this system is much quicker and more convenient than the old method.
