Following receipt- of a. Press Association message which we publish in our local and general columns to-day, regarding an increase in the- price of 'flour, <n. representative of the Star waited upon local bakers for the- purpose of 'ascertaining whether am increase, in the price of bread in sympathy with flour was contemplated. The present. Increase, which brings tlua price -at Auckland to £2l ss: 6d, isptbe third within a month, the two previous advances being of 10s per ton -a-liso. Our representative- was informed that at present no advance was contemplated. .although bakers were being competed to bear an additional charge amounting to 15 per cent, in their chief necessity. It was assured that not without carcfu-l consideration: would any -action he taken, and no increase would be made for some time at least.
