Mr. G. E. Bellringer, M.P., was a passenger by this morning’s mail train.
His Honor. Mr Justice Browne, of the Native Land Court, arrived back in Hawera, last evening from. Wanganui.
Mr St.’L. Reeves, of Eltliarn, who has been on a flying visit to Wellington, returned by the mail > train last evening.
Mr. T. P. Hughson, chairman of tlie Opunake Harbour Board, left by thus morning’s mail train on business in connection with the Harbour Board loan.
A London cable message announced the death of Mr Hill Edwards, who contracted X-ray dermatitis 20 years r,go. First tha left hand, then the forearm, and later all the. fingers of the .right hand had bo. he .amputated. He suffered, agonies for six rears before. the last amputation. He never slept except for a. few hours intei-mit-terrtly by means of narcotics. Sometimes both arms had to .lie bound above the head to give a little relief. Mr. E. B. H. Nicholls, who was for the past ten years —with the exception of tC slight break —connected with the Hawera staff of the Public Trust Department, left this morning on transfer to Napier. During his period in Hawera Mr. Nicholls became very popular, both with liis fellow staff members and others with whom he came into contact. He took a keen interest in the sport of swimming, and was prominenty associated with the activities of the local club. Prior to his departure, Mr, C Freyburg, District Public Trustee, made a presentation on behalf of the staff, and tendered his good wishes for the departing official’s future. Mr. Nicholls, who has occupied the position of accountant’s clerk, suitably replied.
