ACCIDENT TO LIMITED.
CAUSE OF THE MISHAP. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 11. The cause of the mishap to the Limited was a broken -axle, box on the leading carriage. The car was -built in 1909, but the steel axle work Irad- been renewed -since then. The .train- had a very marrow escape. The engine when it .reached -a -standstill was jn-st short of the Belmont viaduct; Had the l derailment taken place a few seconds later there was a big drop into a ravine awaiting the derailed cars. The track was torn up for over 100 yards. The: passengers were taken to Palmerston and -despatched from there three hours behind time. The- Napier expresses have been diverted to the- Wairarapa. line. Arrangements- have been made to transfer passengers for New Plymouth and other -services with a minimum of delay. It. is expected to have- the- line cleat this -afternoon.
