MOKOIA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

INFLUENZA. The* prevailing epidemic has visited most houses in the district and though not very severe in. most cases, the timely help of neighbours in assisting with the work of farm and home has been much, appreciated. There .is the consolation that, the ’flu made its visit before the actual milking season arrived, as it is much more serious when later in the spring. EUCHRIE PARTY. A euchre party and dance organised by the hall committee was held fast Tuesday evening and a, very enjoyable time wa.s spent, the prizes being won by Airs. Hey and Air. Agostmeli. In former years these parties were more frequent and seemed to be appreciated by tlie local residents and it is hoped those responsible will arrange a series for another winter. PUBLIC HALL. During the winter the hall building has been much, improved 'and visitors appreciate tlie work done. Tlie local ladies’ committee devoted the .profits — amounting to about £4o—to the renovating of the ladies’ dressing room and improving the supper room. Hie dressing room has been match-lined, a wizard 'benzine light installed and entirely new sanitary arrangements ached. The supper room has had a, sink fixel, the water laid on and the inside lined and shelved. There are still a few pounds short to meet all this expenditure, but the hall committee is trying to arrange, a concert for ,a date in the near future and it is hoped it will have a. 'big rally of their usual patrons for whose benefit and comfort the improvements have been made. THE.SEASON. After a fairly mild and open winter, we have now entered into spring. The local factory opened about a fortnight ago and most of the suppliers are now taking milk. At present butter is being manufactured, but it is proposed to commence making cheese early next week. Suppliers are rejoicing in having lhad good returns, so far as pay-out js concerned, for the past .season and though prospects are not quite so blight just at present, in that direction, yet it is not safe to predict and it is just as well if we ,adopt tlie- Asquithian philosophy of “wait and see,” If topdressing of pftstures is £is profitable' it is estimated to be—and there is no doubt it is—there should be a big increase in the 'butter-fart supplied to4.be factory this year, all other things being equal." On the twenty farms or .so from which milk is supplied to the. factory there must have been about 100 tons of top-dressing manure distributed.
