TARIFF BARRIERS.
AUSTRALIA’S ACTION RESENTED. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT LONDON, July 21. The chairman (Mr Ta-ttensal 1 ), speaking at a meeting -of the English Sewing Cotton Company, -strongly commented on Australia’s action in raising heavy tariff barriers and only according small preferential advantage to British goods. Returns -allowed that- -last year Lacashii'e and Yorkshire suffered, a, severe diminution in exports to Australia. Mr Tftttersal) remarked that ;it would almost appear, that the only export tlie colonies were- prepared to admit free'-y was British capital. He urged the Lancashire and Yorkshire members of Parliament to tackle the Government in connection with this matter, with a view to -securing a frank discussion -of reciprocal relations with the colonies at the Imperial Conference.
