AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION.
MEETING OF SOUTH TARANAKI EXECUTIVE. A meeting of the executive, of the South Taranaki Automobile Association was held last, evening. Present: Dr. \Y. AI. Thomson (chairman), Dr. AleGhie Messrs AY. G. AUalkley (secretary), AY. O’Callaghan, R. H. Leeco and A. Spragg. It was resolv-ed to have the electric sign on the extension of Princes street erected nearer the junction with -the South road. The secretary reported that, the Hawera Borough Council by-laws committee wished to meet the Automobile Association at 7.30 next Thursday, for the purpose of discussing the 'municipal motor regulations. The meeting appointed Alessrs P. O’Dea, E. P. Cox and AY. O’Callaghan to meet the. council’s representatives'. It was resolved to donate £5 towards the AI. H. AVynyard testimonial. The meeting resolved to call a conference of delegates from the Opunake, Patea, Stratford and Eltham branches, to discuss matters of general interest, for Thursday, July 29. . The Wellington Automobile Club wrote notifying the association of the issue of a new motor guide for the North Island. It was resolved to take 50 copies as a first instalment, and to forward to the Wellington body a map of South Taranaki, with particulars of pleasure trips from Patea, Hawera, Stratford, Eltham and- Opunake, for publication. The secretary was instructed to arrange for the construction of a dozen “one .oar” b nidge signs. Six of these will be used between the Alanawapou and AYaingomgoro hills and Eltham. and the rest at .points to be selected. Correspondence from the. Stratford branch, ini regard to the. names l of rivers, signs, bridges, the painting of bridge danger signs, was l held over till the conference on Thursday. The secretary was instructed to issue a ci rou-lar a. TepoTtfc of tli<* recont; activities of the association; also mentioning the fall in. the insurance rate, explaining that it was largely due to the work of the New Zealand Motor Union, and that local motorists were now getting much tihe same privileges as if the association ran its own insurance scheme. The meeting decided to write to the head teachers, suggesting that the .scholars be warned against this dangerous practice. ' ________
