Before an attendance of 1000 Wellington defeated the Maoris by 28 points to. 16. The game was at times brilliant, but there were long, spells of ragged play. Neither side handled the ball with certainty, and there was not enough team work. Wellington’s score consisted of a. try by Niciholls, a try by Pringle, which was 1 converted, a goal from a mark by Tyree, a. potted goal by Nicholls and one by Taylor, and tries .scored, by Thomais, Sutton (converted by Oregon) and Tlait. On resuming, Whareroa made the pace very willing, until Loader saved with- a good line kick. At this stage City were penalised, and Bryant .snapped the, ball up, .and sent Goodwill and Champion away. Champ ion just failed to score. From this out Whareroa had City pressed hard, and had a series of hue-out light on, the line.

City once again attacked, and Sutton and Cannon looked dangerous, hut through too hard a kick Whareroa was able to force. The .game ended with the score 14 to II in favour of City. Mr J. KiTey ably controlled the game. For City. Sutton, Cannon and Goodwin worn most prominent, and Haig and Thorn pi in,sen for Whareroa.
