MOSCOW, July 21. The death has occurred of Dzerzhinsky, Chief of the Chekka. LONDON, July 21. Alternatively known .as “the Black Pop© of Bolshevism,” and “the Russian 'Butcher,” Dzerzhinsky is estimated (to have been responsible for the execution of 1,250,000 people after the mast horrible, torture.
The Times, states : “How a man personaily faniaitieailly honest and nnbribable could use every means of bribery, corruption, intimidation and betrayal in. the interests of a campaign of wholesale murder is .perhaps 1 a-' psychological riddle, hut it explains Dzerzhinsky’s power,”
