REGISTRATION REFUSED.
SEAMEN’S UNION'S APPLICATION TURNED DOWN. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. SYDNEY, July 1. The Industrial Registrar refused the 'application of the' Coastal Seamen’s and Fireaneni’s Union and the New South. Wales- branch of the Seamen's Union of Australasia for registration as industrial unions ’under the Arbitration A-at.
The reg.i situation of the coastal union is opposed by the Seamen’® Union and the latter’s application apposedi by the coastal union, the Coastal Owners’ Association and- the Inter-State Steamship Owners’ Association. Ini refusing the coastal union’s application the Regiist.ar said that the evidence had established that there was control over the union’ by the employers. Thus the union was not genuine or representative of the employee®. Alliter considering the conduct of the seamen As union, since 1921, the Registrar said lie felt the union did not desire to regulate conditions of employment by the means provided in the industrial and Arbitration, Act and would not, if registered, he a bona- fide industrial union.
