PROSPECTS OF INDUSTRY

There was a. good uttend'ance of delegates from ail.l parts: of the Dominion. The Hon. 01.O 1 . J. Hawken, addressing the conference, said that he believed New Zealand was going to be a great fruit-growing country. U,p to the piesent growers had Iliad rather an unhappy time, it had taken a long time to establish the, industry, but it looked with regard to the export trade that business from now on would be, on a better footing. The Government would continue its assistance, but lie did not know how much: it was going to cost. Hie hoped it would not. wind up with too march, of a loss. He thought those engaged in: ,suoli industries. pa,rtioularly fruit-growing, were worthy of support from the State. An increase in production meant ail -increase in the weailibh, of the nation. iHe hoped the Fuitgrowers’ Board would be able to cut down marketing expenses.
