HAWERA STATISTICS.

INTERESTING FIGURES. BIRTHS, DEATHS, AND MARRIAGES. Births in Hawera for the month of June, when compared with the corresponding month of last year, showed a decrease of 38 per cent., while deaths, although when compared with births were still in a low proportion, showed 100 per cent, increase. Marriages were more popular during the month than previously, the number for June of 1925 being almost doubled. The figures were as follows, those for the month of June, 1925, being, for the purpose of comparison, given in parentheses: Births 23 (37), deaths 8 (4), marriages 18 (10). The figures for the quarter ended June 30, 1926, showed, as compared with the same period of 1925, a comparatively small decrease in births, an increase in deaths of just over 40 per cent., and a slight increase in marriages. The figures were: Births 69 (80), deaths 20 (14), marriages 33 (28).

THE MONTH’S WEATHER. The month of June just closed, which proved a comparatively dry month as compared with the corresponding period of previous years, opened with a spell of ten days’ dry weather, the first fall being the small amount- of .02 inch recorded on June 11. Rain fell on the following five days, during which .78 inch, the heaviest fall of the month, was recorded, after which there was a’ break of five days. Rain was lecorded on only ten days throughout the month, 2.09‘ inches being the total for the month.
