A hard-fought game' between the Patea and. Kaponga fourths was played at Patea,. anjl . resulted in a win, for the home side by 11 points to 9. The first

spell was even. Kaponga were the first to take the lead, by virtue of an unconverted try by the big centre three-quarter, P. Gargan. Just on the half-time whistle Patea got its first try through the agency of the Maori wing three-quarter, Tupito. Within fiye minutes of resuming play, P. Gargan put Kaponga iii the lead once more with three points from a penalty kick. The score was brought to six all by McLachlan *dashing through the Rose. Cousins, the fleet home centre threequarter, whose back play showed promise, got over for Patea, and Willis added the major points. With one minute to go Kaponga. riiade an effort to draw, Glover getting over in a fair position, from v r hich Gargan was unable to convert. Mr T. Sheahan was the referee.

WAIMATE v. HIGH SCHOOL B. Wannate had a win by default from Hawera High School B, who were unable to take cut a. team HIGH SCHOOL A 8 v. OKAIAWA 5. Okitiawa, met .and suffered defeat from High - School A on the latter’s home ground, after a. fast but somewhat ragged game, by eight points (two tries, -one converted) to five (one converted try), The visiting team opened well, .'Cran scoring a try and Clarke converting. No further score was added, r.lthough Okaiawa pressed well with the wind in their favour. After the change over the position l ivas reversed by Sargent and Church scoring. Peterson converting the latter’s try. The close of the game was ragged, the final score being School 8, Okaiawa 5. Mr M. R. Jones refereed.
