EGMONT A. & P. ASSOCIATION.
MEETING OF COMMITTEE.
The monthly meeting of the Eginont A. and P. Association Committee Was held this afternoon, when there were present: Messrs S. C. Tonks (president), W. MeL'Dowie, K. MeCay, J. D. Scott, A. Lankow, F. Tilly, E. A. Washer, P. Bremer, J. S. T. Short, A. J. Haseitme, F. J. Salmon, T. Wilson, N. Crocker, B. C. Gibson, B C. Lysaght, J. Kerrisk, W. R. O. Spooner, E. A. Death, and F. Mills, junr. MEMBERS’ TICKETS. The recommendation of the annual meeting, to the effect that no members tickets should be issued to members unfinancial at show date, was brought up for discussion. The president remarked that a large number of members appeared to prefer to pay two years’ subscription at a time rather than paying yearly. In reply to Mr B. E. Lysaght, the secretary stated that at last show date there were probably 270 members, unfinancial.
Several members appeared to consider that, if the proposal were adopted, it would tend to lower the members’ list. Mr Lysaght moved, and Mr R. McCay seconded, that the recommendation of the annual meeting be adopted. Mr T. Wilson, however, moved that the matter be deferred for one year, and this Mr E. A. Washer seconded. The amendment was carried by 13 votes to four. STOCK DRIVE. Another recommendation of the annual meeting —that a stock drive be again held was also discussed. The secretary stated that the previous stock drive had realised a profit of £421. _ . Some members considered that this was a desirable means of raising money, but a motion approving the recommendation was lost by nine votes to six. When Mr J. Forbes arrived after this business had been dealt with, he gave notice of motion to reintroduce the defeated proposal.
GENERAL. The chairman stated that the Taranaki Rugby Union had asked permission to number the seats on the long stand at the association’s show grounds, in view of representative football matches being held.—Permission was granted. The secretary stated that six months were allowed’ for the presentation of prize cheques. This carried over the balance date and, while there were usually a number: outstandjaing, it was a comparatively rare occurrence, for checks to be presented later than the balance date. It was suggested that payment should be stopped just prior to the balance date. Mr. Forbes moved that all prize money cheques . unpresented at March 31, following th© show be written, back, and that prize: winners should be given seven days’ notice before the proposal was put into effect. Members doubted the legality of such a step and the matter was left in abeyance. The president brought up th© ques
tion of canvassing for entries. He thought that societies of the different breeds of stock should eaeh appoint a representative to' canvass for those breeds. The proposition was adopted as follows: Ayreshire cattle. Mr. F. Mills; Jerseys, Messrs F. Hoskin and J. S. T. Short; Freisians, Mr. 11. E. Johnson; Milking Shorthorns, *tr. E. A.
