CHURCH OF ENGLAND.
FACING A CRISIS. TROUBLE OVERi RUBRIC EXPECTED. BY CABLE—PBESS ASSOCIATION—COPYBIGHT LONDON, June 16. The Daily Express says that the Church of England' is facing one of the gravest crisises in. its history, which may lead to. the breakaway of 700,000 member® of the Angfo-Oaitihofic party, and their eventual reunion with Rome. Thirt-y-isix .archbishops and! bishops, in daily conference at Lambath Palace, are expected to approve of the rubric, which has already passed the House of Clergy, .legalising the perpetual reservation of the Sacrament. The Church Assembly is likely to confirm the bishops’ decision, and then the fight will '.begin,, a® the new rubric will have to go to Parliament for authority, .which the Anglo-Gaitih,olios refuse to recognise. The rejection, of the Bill by Pari lament would strengthen the AngloCalbho'licts’ vigorous demand for disestablishment. On the contrary, if the Bill is passed by Parliament, the bishops will Iban, the iserwii.ce of devotion, to the Sacrament, which .is now carried on in many Anglo-Catholic churches, and as AngkhGatholicis refuse to respect this ban, prosecution® will begin.
[Reference to ia leading member 1 of the Church of England elicited th e information that there ha® been for some time a, ©ontrovensy waged amongst. chnrc.hpeoplia at Home .concerning this question of adding the, Ruble allowing for “perpetual reservation of the- Sacrament” in place of that which now affirms that the whole of the consecrated elements' muislt be . used at the one Communion Service. The new Rubric would allow the consecrated elements to >be kept In. the Altar and used as needed. ' Another section, however, are urging a. Rubio for the .reservation of the Sacraments, but only for administration, to the side. There appears, however, to be. some indefiniteness in the ©able a® received.]
