A young man named John Reginald Ellis appeared before Air J. S. Barton, S.M., at the Wanganui Magistrate’s Court yesterday, charged with forging a cheque on the Bank of New Zealand at Hawera and purporting to have been signed by Blair unci Sellar, and, with 'uttering’the cheque to the S.O.S. Motors Ltd. (states the Wanganui Chronicle). Accused, who .made no application for bail, was remanded ufitil next Monday.
Napier Harbour Board yesterday adopted the report of engineers on the reclamation proposals, and decided to hasten preparation of legislation authorising the raising of £25,000 to reclaim 618 acres' of low lands adjoining the borough. This will make available 229 town allotments for borough expansion and 500 acres of farm and! suburban land. The board also decided to proceed with the reclamation of two ponds at Port Ahuriri, making available a considerable area, for whatever purposes may be required.
