At last night’s meeting of the Hawera Borough Council a letter, already published in these columns, was read from the Main Highways Board, asking the council to contribute towards the cost of eliminating the dangerous South Road crossing. It was resolved that no action be taken in the matter, Cr. W. G. Walkley pointing out that the local bodies in the district had been spending large sums on their roads, and such work as was proposed at the level crossing would correspond to the- sphere of the Main Highways Board. *Cr. Reid thought the council should ‘subscribe. The Mayor shared Cr. Walk ley’s view.
