MIDNIGHT ENCOUNTER.

YOUTH AND BURGLAR, (.BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) CHRISTCHURCH, June 15. A fierce struggle between an eight-een-year-old youth and a burglar, whom he Rencountered, doming away from his parents’ residence in a lonely part of Shirley, took place at midnight on Saturday. The burglar eventually succeeded in. making his escape, but not before the lad had, recovered from him . his mother’s" purse and a sum of money which had been stolen from the kitchen mantlepiece of the house. A bicycle, almost new, which lias since been discovered to have been stolen from someone else, an electric torch and a blood-stained handkerchief are other soveniers of the encounter, which are new in the hands of the police.
