HIS ‘APPOINTMENT AS AGENT GENERAL. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. Received 10.50 a.m. to-day. SYDNEY, June 15. Referring to the* appointment of Lord Chelmsford as Agent General for New South Wales until a* permanent appointment has been* made, the Premier, the Hon. J. T. Lang, said that he was opposed to political appointments. Lord Chelmsford held office on similar terms to his predecessor, the late Sir Timothy Coghlan, namely a salary of £IBSO per annum aud an allowance of £BOO.

The appointment has received general commendation from all parties.
