DRAMA IN COURT.
A SPY RECOGNISED. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT LONDON, June. 14. The Daily Express’ Paris correspondent says thiat a Belgian spy, who betrayed a number of Frenchmen and Belgians .to the Germans, was* recog-nisedl-dramatically in: a Paris court. "That is* the wretch!” cried out M. Georges, French customs officer, when Laperre), a Belgian accountant, came into* the dock on a charge of swindling. '(He betrayed six of us. Let me get at him. I’ll strangle him.” The police protected Laperre, who burst into tears' and said: ”1 confess, but the Germans* promised ray life if 1 agreed to spy. I had! been doing espionage work for, Britain, but was betraye*d: by a woman spy and sentenced to death.”
The Belgian, authorities have announced that Laperre was sentenced to death for default in 1921 for denouncing Frenchmen and Belgians, whereof ten, were shot.
