Conditions were that exhibitors were required to compete in all three shows, and the trophy was awarded for the highest total of points. The cup, which was a handsome solid silver one, had been won outright by ATessrs Bowen and AVilson, of Hawke’s Bay. On the recommendation of the Hnwera Football Club, it was decided to reconstruct the committee controlling the dressing shed? at the association’s show grounds, at. present consisting of three representatives from the association and club, by allowing each contributing body to appoint one representative to act in conjunction with the present committee.

Complimenting the Association on its enterprise in offering its grounds for the annual camp of the' Mounted Rifles, the Hawera. Chamber of Commerce expressed its satisfaction that it had been made possible for the camp to lie held at Hawera. In this connection, the chairman .reported that the nse of the grounds,' rent free, had been granted to the regiment, on the understanding that all damage clone, to the grounds or buildings shou'd be made good. A committee consisting of the president, vice-president, and Mr B. C. Lysaght was set up to inspect the grounds at the conclusion of the camp and assess the amount of any damage done.

MANURES FOR. CHILDREN’S COMPETITIONS. Mr B. C. Lysaght brought up the question of the supply of manure to the boys’ and girls’ clubs for root-growing competitions. He thought that the fact that a standard manure was provided did not give an education in the judicious use of manures in various kinds of crops l and soils. Each child should, therefore, be allowed to use anv kind of manure. Mr McL’Dowie was of the opinion that each child should lie allowed to use several kinds of manure on different rows in the one plot, thereby being alve to judge which suited best the particular conditions, such as season, soil, etc. , r Mr J. Kernsk quoted the figures from last year’s competitions, which showed that the winning plot had been the site of an old nig vard, and had produced a crop of almost 40 per cent, in exf-e-ss of the second plot. Mr Lvsaght then moved that it wViou'd be a ifoimmendation to the Education Department that children should be allowed to use any kind or manure chosen for the competitions instead of tho standard manure, as issued t present. Mr F Hoskin thought that for the competition the standard manure should he used, hut that alongside the competition plot children .shook! lie' encouraged to experiment with various kinds of manure. The motion was then carried, no amendment being proposed to give effect to the various suggestions offered.
