EVENING STANDARD’S 1 COMPETITION. NOVEL SCORING METHOb. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. LONDON, June 11. For the Evening Standard’s £IOOO unique target golf competition at the Moore Park course the scoring is by points instead of strokes, and is designed to give each shot its real value, and thus induce more accurate shots and higher scores. Drives from the tee finishing in the fairway are awarded one point. The greens, for the purpose of approach shots are divided by the target into three circles, an inner, middle, and outer, earning 9,8, and‘7 points respectively. Points are awarded for accuracy in putting. In tlie first round the most_promment scorers were: Mitchell 172, Melhorn 160, Duncan and Alliss 159, Carnegie Clark 153, Hagen 148, Popplewell 144, Howard 141, Kirkwood 128. (The highest possible score is 228.) Mitchell’s total represented a score of 69 under the ordinary conditions, equalling the record for the course. Mitchell, with 337, won £200; Herd was second with 319, Duncan and R. Q. Herd (the veteran’s son) were third with 317, and Melhorn was fifth with 316.

INTERNATIONAL FOURSOME. LONDON, June 12. In the M/oore Park international foursome, Hagen and Bobby Jones beat Mitchell and Tolley 4 and 2.
