GRADE JERSEY COWS.

HIGH PRICES REALISED

Yesterday Messrs Newton i King, Ltd., Stratford, held a clearing sale on behalf of Mr. Jack Perham, at W'aipuku. Mr. Perham has been milking for the past 34 years and dyring that time has built up an exceptionally fine herd of grade Jersey cows. A very large attendance of buyers was in evidence, ’buyers coming from as far afiiold as Mahoenui in the North and from below Hawera in the south, also from Opunake district. The condition of the cows and heifers was very favourably commented on, and great- credit is due to Mr. Perham for the manner in which the _ cattle were brought forward. The highest price for a cow was £35 10s, many others bringing from £2O to £26. Detailed prices are as follow: £l4, £24 10s, £24, £l3, £22, £l9, £25, £l4, £2l 10s, £22, £l3 10s, £26, £29, £ls 10s, £2l, £2O, £22, £2l 10s, £35 10s, £2O 10s, £22/ £l7, £l9 10s, £lO 10s, (three quarter cow) £l3, £ls 10s, £lO, (empty) £l6 10s. The heifers were an exceptionally fine lot and made the following prices: (From the last cow sold) £ls each, £l3, £l3, £ll 10s, £lO, £lB 10s, £ls, £l4, £l2, £7 10, £6 10, £'l4. £l2, £ll, £l9, £l6, £l6, £6 10s, £ls 10s, £l4, £ls 10s, £S, £9.. It can been seen that the right class of cattle are eagerly sought after by progressive 'dairy farmers. It is anticipated that cows from proven herds will realise big figures during- the coming season. However, auctioneers expect that it will be some time before the average prices obtained by Mr. Perham will be eclipsed.
