SCOUTS AND GUIDES. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The combined; Girl Guides and Boy Scouts Committee met on Wednesday night. Those, present were Mr I. J. Bridger (chairman), Mesdames M. Burke, J. Hilmer, H. Gower, and Captain Mrs Foord, Messrs M. Burke and R. L. Garden, Rev. Air Isaacson, Mr R. J. Harrison (secretary), and Air J. Rogers (Scoutmaster). The chairman extended ct very cordial welcome to the new members of the committee, andi reported that since the last committee meeting h© had visited the Boy Scouts at their work and had given them a talk, also the Girl Guides. He was very much impressed with the work that was being done by the responsible; officers in training the boys and' girls. He said that he was very anxious that the numbers belonging to each concei’ii should increase by at least 100 per cent. He had' promised, on behalf of the committee, prizes to the boy and girl who .secured the greatest number of recruits for their respective troop during the months of June and July, and already there had been increased interest and activity in securing new Th© Girl Guides captain (Mrs R. Foord) reported that Mrs J. _I. RGray had kindly offered to assist the Guicles in any way possible, and- it was decided to thank Airs Gray for her interest and offer of assistance. Airs M. Burke offered to donate several books of plays to the Girl Guides, and it was suggested that a combined effort lie made to hold a' demonstration in the near future, when an exhibition of Scout and 1 Guide work could be given. The Scoutmaster was authorised' to purchase a. football for tbe Scouts’ use. It was decided to hold, a combined church parade on July 4. in the morning. at the Church of England. Brigadier-General Andrew, Chief Commissioner of Scouts for New Zealand. wrote to the committee on. its work. He considered that- the troop was now on a very fair basis owing to the appointment of three assistant Scoutmasters, who will be of great- assistance to the Scoutmaster. It was decided to fix the order of seniortiy of the three assistant Scoutmasters as follows: L. Cooper, S. Tiplad-'’, and J. Potto.
The matter of appointing temporary examiners for the various tests was left with the chairman, with power, to act.
