NEW PLYMOUTH OLD GIRLS WIN TARANAKI CHAMPIONSHIP at hawera tournament As a result of tlio Taranaki ladies’ hockey tournament, held at Hawera yesterday, the New Plymouth Old Girls’ team carried away the Taranaki Ladies’ Championship Cup, previously held by the Stratford Olcl Girls. The latter team had held the championship for two successive years, the present winners having previously held it for a year. Yesterday’s tournament, favoured byline weather conditions, was in everyway a great success, the standard of the games being such as to delight the large attendance of the public, and interest toward the closing matches became- very keen, the final game being followed closely. Although games were played strictly to time, the semi-final between Manaia and Stratford Old Girls, to find the winning team in the B division, was considerably prolonged on account of thei-e being no score, and the final was played in waning light, hut this did not prevent New Plymouth Old Girls from securing a decisive victory. Play throughout the tournament was fast and interesting, ixiany teams showing good combination* the principal fault laying in unfinished play. THE TEAMS. The teams were: Hawera Ramblers.—D. Ingle-; wood 0. —Old Girls gained considerable advantage over their less experienced opponents, and the game was somewhat one-sided. Goals were securd for Old Girls by D. Sturmey (4) and F.
