EGYPT’S INDEPENDENCE
MAY BE MODIFIED.
HINT TO ZAGHLUL
FUTURE DEPENDS ON HIM,
BY CABLE—PBESS ASSOCIATION—COPYBIGHT. LONDON, June 1. The Daily Express lobbyist suggests that unless Zaghlul’s demands are reasonable, there may be a complete modification of the independence granted to Egypt in February, 1922. Zaghlul did not accept the four reservations therein, and if he decides to take office himself, the position will be one of concern to Britain.
The Government to-day sent new in structions to Sir George Lloyd (British High Commissioner) to bring under Zaghlul’s notice the conditions entailed in the independence granted, and to inform him that the future .depends upon whether or not lie is more amendable. The lobbyist says that at the moment the Government lias no evidence of any change in Zaghlul’s anti-British views.
