The Hon. 11. A. Wright, replying to a deputation which asked for additions to the Wellington Technical College, said that questions were being asked as to whether the Education Department was getting value for its expenditure and if it was spending it in tlio right direction. He could not answer these questions yet. He agreed that technical education in Wellington had been thrust on one side. Proceeding, he said: “A great many promises had been made before I came into office. Commitments have been, made by my predecessor which I shall certainly to redeem. There can be no escape from them. This is going to handicap me very severely in my- first year of office.” The present request would be brought before the Cabinet. During the hearing: of a case in the Police Court at Auckland) ira whch the accused was charged with the unlawful use of a motor car, it was stated that this class of offence was very prevalent in that city, 60 cars having been since, the beginning; o£ -the m year.
