The stewards of the Wellington Racing Club yesterday unanimously appointed Air. W. P. Russell judge for the winter meeting, to be held at Trentham next month. The appointment became necessary on account of the resignation of the previous judge, Captain J. Gage Williams, who resigned to take up the duties of private trainer to Air. E. L. Riddiford The present appointment, which is for the winter meeting only, can be taken as a permanent one, says the Dominion. The Wellington Racing Club allots such positions yearly, at the annual meeting, held in September each year, and the selection of Air. Russell will, it is anticipated, be confirmed for the future at the next annual meeting. A London cable mesage states that Aliss Marie Ney, the actress, is engaged to Alaurice Brownlie, the All Black, who, seeing her photograph in New Zealand, asked his brother for a letter of introduction Aliss Ney was then playing at the Old Victoria Theatre.
