ELTHAM SITTING. The fortnightly sitting of the Magistrate’s Court at Eltham. was held yesterday, Mr R. W. Tate, S.M., .presiding, • ” CIVIL CASES. Judgment for plaintiff by default was given in each of the following undefended civil cases: Newton King, Ltd., v. Rangi Huna, £l3 7s (costs £3 6s); J. and A. Guy v. A. L. Gower, £2O 3s 9d (£4 3s 6d); Newton King. Ltd., v. J. G. Phillips, £1 11s 6d (19s); same v. Jones Bros., £27 19s 9a (£4 3s 6d)-; C. D. Feild v. J. Caldwell, £4 12s Gd (£1 13s 6d); C. E. Betts v. F. Litchw'ark, £1 13s 6d (16s); A. Chrystal v. A. E: Dobson, £4 10s (£1 3s 6d). DEFENDED ACTION.

Lengthy evidence was heard in the defended action John Fary v. A. E. Dobson, calim for £lOl 10s lid and counter-el aim for £96 8s 3d. Judgment was reserved. , FOUND ON LICENSED PREMISES. H. Hughes and William , Alves, neither of whom appeared to answer respective charges of being, on the licensed premises of the Dominion Hotel, Kaponga, during prohibited hours on May 27, were each convicted and fined £2 and costs 7s.

Constable J. O’Donoghue gave evidence to the effect that he had seen both' defendants emerge from the rear of the hotel at 11 p.m. on the day mentioned. Hughes had admitted- he had been trying? to get a drink, but he had not been successful.

For riding a bicycle without a light in Eltham on the evening of (May 16, •James Robert Streeter, who had 'made an admission to the police, was convicted and fined £1 and costs 7s.
