ON LAKE ROTORUA.
THREE MEN MISSING. (BY TELEGBAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) ROTORUA, June 1. Anxiety is felt for the .safety of three men—Gustave Walfgramiii, aged 28, married, with four children; Angus Douglas, single, aged 24; and Seddoii Matthews, 16—who left- Rotorua presumably to return, to Ngongotaha, in l a 14-foot boat with an outboard engine at 7 o’clock on Saturday night. The boat was well equipped with oars and rowlocks,. A later message stated that there were no signs of the missing men,, but some oars were picked up on the beach at Awahou, near Ngongotaha, while cumulative evidence showed that cries were heard from the lake on Saturday night, and also that a bright light was seen on the water.
Hope of finding the men has been abandoned. One theory advanced, is that the benzine which the launch carried became ignited; another, that the boat opened up under the vibration of •engine, being old and allegedly unsound Launches are now dragging the lake between Kawaha and Awahou.
