STATISTICS FOR MAY.
HAWERA FIGURES. A sharp decline in births, amounting to 37.75 per cent, is shown when comparing the figures for the month just closed with those of the corresponding period of last year. Deaths remain steady, while marriages show a slight increase. The figures are as follows, and for the purpose of comparison those for the month of May, 1925, are given in parentheses: Births, 15 (24); deaths, 5 (5); marriages, 11 (9)THE WEATHER. That the month of May just closed had a rainfall rather heavier than usual was disclosed by an examination of the rainfall -statistics kept by the postmaster at Hawera. On 23 days (leaving only eight days without rain) a totaE fall of 7.09 inches was records ed. The heaviest fall was on May S, when 1.24 inches was measured. The total fall was 1.38 inches in excess of that for May, 1925 (5.61 inches), which was also slightly above- that for the corresponding month of the .previous year. Rain fell on 16 days- in, May of last year, and the highest fall was 1.3' inches on the 22nd. BANKRUPTCIES. One bankruptcy was' recorded in the hooks of the Deputy Official Assignee at Hawera, Mr R. S. Sage, during the month of May. For the corresponding month of the previous year none were recorded.
