STILL TROUBLESOME
SHORTER WEEK DISPUTE. v RESUMPTION OF WORK. I NOT YET COMPLETE, ’ SY CABLE-PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. Received 10.20 a.m to-dav. SYDNEY, June 1. The resumption of work after the forty-four hours week strike is not altogether complete, owing to a number of men obtaining work elsewhere. The secretary of the Coachmakers’ Union stated that some employers had refused to. re-employ a number of hands, and the matter was to be referred to the Disputes Committee of the Labour Council. A hitch occurred in the motor body building industry over the interpretation of a clause in the agreement. Four shops have not reopened. Certain members of the Ironworkers’ Assistants’ .Union were tokl that their services were not required. The employees at the Broken Hill Proprietary’s steel works were not affected by the agreement. Negotiations are still in progress for the settlement of their dispute. MELBOURNE, May 31.
Representatives of all the .Labour councils in the Commonwealth 'have commenced the consideration of the forty-four hour weep as it afreets the whole Commonwealth.
