PRESENTATION TO MR J. E. CAMPBELL. The friends of Air J. E. Campbell met in the Hawera Returned Soldiers’ Club last evening to say farewell to him on the eve of liis departure on a three ’ years’ trip to England. Air E. Dixon presided over a largo assembly, and in his opening remarks reminded those present that they were gathered to say good-bye to one who had for many years taken an active part in the affairs of the town. Air Campbell had I men particularly interested in the Banner Competition for the' scohol children, and its success year by year had been mainly due to his initiative. The speaker said he regretted that the town was not to have All* Campbell’s services on the Borough Council, as his experience would have been valuable in such an office, especially in view of liis knowledge of town planning. However, in the future they hoped to see Air Campbell in their midst again, after enjoying a pleasant stay abroad. Air Dixon then presented the guest of the evening with a travelling rug, and accompanied it with a manicure set for Airs Campbell —marks of the respect in which they were held by their fellow townspeople. All* B. C. Bennett said it was good to see so many people present at the function, indicating that Air and Airs Campbell were appreciated in the community.

Mr F. Purser, after commenting on the representative gathering, remarked upon Mr Campbell’s interest in sport. Alessrs B. ATcCarthy, L. A. Taylor, and J. Goodwin supported the other speakers.

Air Campbell was greeted with applause upon rising, and classed the moment as one of the happiest of his life. He had been brought up in Hawera, and looked forward to returning to the circle of friends he was leaving behind hint; He charged those at the meeting to maintain their interest in the Dixon Banner Competition. The singing of “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow” brought the proceedings to a. close.
