The Spanish, prisoner must be a very old man now, but he is still alive, still in prison, and still offering a fortune of £24,000 to anyone who will advance the small sum necessary for his release. New Zealanders have not recently heard of his misfortune, but an ex-Aucklander in Canada has received a letter from Spain on the time-worn lines. The prisoner, it seems, possesses a portmanteau in which are secreted cheques for £72,000. If he is released from prison he will be able to cash the cheques and reward his with a third share. The whole thing is, of course, a fraud, but many in New Zealand will be interested to hear that their old friend still lives and can still write letters. Hamilton has its fair share of people who are sadly lacking in the elements of sportsmanship. "While the hockey match between the Indian Army representatives and Waikato was in progress there a few days ago, several hundred neonle enjoyed the game from outside the fence in Wellington street. The majority of them were not by. any means destitute, in which case there would have been some excuse fob their actions, but drove up in flash motor cars, alighted, and calmly watched the play. An official of the Hockey Association was heard to mention that he was amazed to find there were so many “stiffs” in Hamilton.
